August Camera Club Competition Results

There was only one competition for PACC this month.

PACC - Architecture & Open

Clockwise:  Sunset Stroll (9), Largs Bay Sunset (7), Angles & Curves (9), SAHMRI Foyer (9)

Another example of two different judges giving the same image a markedly different score - Sunset Stroll received a 6 at MLPC (which is a low score), whereas at PACC, it received a 9 and placed First!

July Camera Club Competition Results

July competition were:

MLPC - Nostalgia (Prints Only) & Open

 

Clockwise:  Sunset Swim (8), Sunset Stroll (6), Largs Bay Sunset (8), Lonely Jetty (7)

PACC - Our Port Adelaide & Open

Clockwise:  In Your Dreams (9-Merit), Geranium Grunge (8), Sunset Swim (8), Lonely Jetty (9-3rd Place)

It just goes to show that two different judges can give the same image a markedly different score - Lonely Jetty received a 7 at MLPC (which is a low score), whereas at PACC, it received a 9 and got Third place!

Skywatch Friday - 23rd June 2023

I took my camera out with me last Tuesday as I knew I would have some time to fill in before my Camera Club.

I ventured down to the beach - Largs Bay Jetty - to be exact and had a wander around the sand dunes.  I stayed close to the jetty as I had an idea of the type of shot I wanted to get ....... it would all depend on whether the clouds and the setting sun would behave!

I am glad to say that the clouds did behave themselves.

June Camera Club Competition Results

June competition for PACC - Subjects were:  Street Photography & Open

I did an even split this month with 1 PDI in each subject and 1 Print in each subject.

PDI:  Top Row (L to R) - Sad Little Corella:  9 out of 10 (Merit), Passing by H&M: 7 out of 10

PRINT:  Bottom Row (L to R) - Good Parking Spot?: 7 out of 10, Dandelion Dream: 10 out of 10 (1st)

I was quite pleased with my 1st Place - my first 1st Place since February '23

The Adelaide International Kite Festival is on this Easter weekend.  I was lucky enough to be able to attend yesterday and even though it was a bit cold .... and very windy ...... it was a great day out!

Both my camera clubs, MLPC & PACC had competitions in March.

MLPC subjects were Generations, Minimalist & Open

PACC subjects were Monochrome & Open

It's all about the Curves - Scored 9 out of 10

Colourful Visitor - Scored 10 out of 10

My images for PACC Competition did not do so well this month  :( only getting 6's & 7's

Early Morning Fishermen - Scored 7 out of 10 - Mono

Instagram Worthy - Scored 6 out of 10 - Open

Light & Shadow - Scored 7 out of 10 - Mono

Red Bottle Brush Bloom - Scored 6 out of 10 - Open

I was very disappointed with my scores from this PACC Competition.  It just goes to show that two different Judges can view the same image and have very different opinions!

Now to prepare for April Competition for PACC which will be Nature + Open.

February Camera Club Competition Results

My camera club, PACC, held the first competition for the year and the subject was People/Portaiture & Open.

I am not much of a 'people/portraiture' person, so I entered most of my images in the 'open' category.

Excelsior Sunset

History - excerpts taken from "Heritage South Australia" - EXCELSIOR - Mutton Cove
The screw steamer Excelsior was built in 1897 by Gourlay Brothers of Dundee, Scotland.
The Excelsior was originally registered in Sydney (1897) and in 1908 was owned by South Australian flour millers, John Darling and Sons. By 1912 the Excelsior was owned by the South Australian Farmers Union Cooperative (registered in Adelaide) and remained under their ownership until 1933 when it was sold to the South Australian Harbors Board. The steamer was converted to a coal hulk, lightering coal to the steam powered dredges working in Port Adelaide. As diesel-powered dredges took over from the coal-fuelled ones, the Excelsior was laid up, eventually being abandoned at Mutton Cove, on the northern end of the Lefevre Peninsula, in 1945.
The remains lie embedded in mud, east of Outer Harbor. The rusting hull shows little sign of salvage. The bow is intact but sections of the stern have collapsed.

A new year .....

Well, here we are in 2023, and another trip around the sun commences!

I have signed up for the 52 in 2023, and 123 in 2023 Flickr groups.  I have had a SLOW start to the year, but I am hoping to get better at regularly taking photos.

I belong to two Camera Clubs this year:  Port Adelaide Camera Club (PACC) and Mawson Lakes Photography Club (MLPC) and I will share my competition results ..... the good and the bad .... here on the blog.  If you are so inclined, I would love to hear what you think!
