Skywatch Friday - 23rd June 2023

I took my camera out with me last Tuesday as I knew I would have some time to fill in before my Camera Club.

I ventured down to the beach - Largs Bay Jetty - to be exact and had a wander around the sand dunes.  I stayed close to the jetty as I had an idea of the type of shot I wanted to get ....... it would all depend on whether the clouds and the setting sun would behave!

I am glad to say that the clouds did behave themselves.

The Adelaide International Kite Festival is on this Easter weekend.  I was lucky enough to be able to attend yesterday and even though it was a bit cold .... and very windy ...... it was a great day out!

History - excerpts taken from "Heritage South Australia" - EXCELSIOR - Mutton Cove
The screw steamer Excelsior was built in 1897 by Gourlay Brothers of Dundee, Scotland.
The Excelsior was originally registered in Sydney (1897) and in 1908 was owned by South Australian flour millers, John Darling and Sons. By 1912 the Excelsior was owned by the South Australian Farmers Union Cooperative (registered in Adelaide) and remained under their ownership until 1933 when it was sold to the South Australian Harbors Board. The steamer was converted to a coal hulk, lightering coal to the steam powered dredges working in Port Adelaide. As diesel-powered dredges took over from the coal-fuelled ones, the Excelsior was laid up, eventually being abandoned at Mutton Cove, on the northern end of the Lefevre Peninsula, in 1945.
The remains lie embedded in mud, east of Outer Harbor. The rusting hull shows little sign of salvage. The bow is intact but sections of the stern have collapsed.

1st Day of Spring

It's been a bit gloomy of late here in Adelaide .......

1st September is the First Day of Spring here in the southern hemisphere ....

Yay ............. let the sneezing begin!   I never used to suffer much, but I am finding the older I get, the more sensitive I seem to be getting.

2021 Photography Projects - Update

well, here we are in April and I haven't shared my 2021 photography projects.

I must confess, motivation to get out with the camera has been lacking - I find I just want to hunker down and stay home.

Skywatch Friday - April

Well, here we are in April and adjusting to our new way of life!   We are social distancing as much as possible and staying at home.  I only go 'out' to get needed groceries &/or prescriptions.

My new daily ritual has been to take a walk around the block :)  This way I get 'out' and lessen the cabin fever, I get to breath fresh air and soak up a bit of sun :)

Here is a photo of the clouds on one of my walks - I love looking at the clouds.

Nature's Christmas Lights

Merry Christmas to all my followers!  I hope you get to spend all the time you want and need with all of the people you love and cherish!

Last night, Christmas Eve, I was sitting in the lounge at home exhausted but very happy to be spending time with family, and I happened to glance out of the window to catch a glimpse of the most brilliant colouring of the sky.  I grabbed the camera and got this shot.



I am so glad I noticed it when I did, as it lasted only a minute, then it was gone.

Change of Seasons

Experimented with photographing a new subject, well new for me

Then later in August, I went for a walk around Port Adelaide


and a few days later, I visited Adelaide Botanic Gardens, with the planes flying right overhead











and then a different thing with wings!




and now, it's officially Spring here in Adelaide ......  but it did seem to come early
